Insurance can seem very boring to the new student keen to get going on their wonderful adventure into independence. However more and more when you consider the value of what young people take away with themselves insurance can be vital. Gone are the days of a few old T-shirts and jeans now there are expensive clothes, laptops, ipods etc!

Nowadays students take several expensive items with them to university; not least computers and mobile phones, even jewellery, cars and fashion items. Some sort of home contents insurance can be really wise. Remembering when seeking quotes that some items, such as lap-top computers, will move around with the student so extra insurance (all risk type policies) will be needed for such items.

There are insurance companies linked to student bodies, but beware these are not always the cheapest policies. However the cost does need to be balanced against these companies being familiar with student requirements. Another way to investigate is whether a parents' home contents insurance policy can be added to cover the student away from home. Really it is a case of "shop around" and chose what suits the student in question.
